SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Tuesday in collaboration with Employees Joint Action committee (EJAC) held a day long free medical camp at Wussan Tangmarg of district Baramulla.
1800 patients who attended the camp for various ailments received free consultations by a team of specialist doctors and were provided free medicines.
President DAK Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan who headed the team at the camp said that the majority of patients had infectious diseases because of poor hygiene and sanitation.
Diabetes screening of high risk individuals was conducted and 12 new cases of diabetes were detected.
Diabetics were sensitized for self monitoring of sugars and made aware of complications and life style modifications for prevention of disease.
Majority of newly diagnosed hypertensives during screening were asymptomatic and unaware of the disease.
Already diagnosed patients of hypertension were non adherent to treatment because of lack of patient education.
400 school children were dewormed on spot as part of comprehensive school health programme which was launched by DAK on July 31.
Thyroid screening and lipid profile was done on high risk individuals.
People were sensitized and made aware of H1N1 infuenza and were educated about measures to be taken to protect individuals and community from flu.
Other doctors at the camp were Dr Riyaz Ahmad Daga (Spokesperson DAK ), Dr Suhail Naik (Pediatrician), Dr Rameez (ophthalmologist), Dr Javid Qanungoo (Dentist), Dr Shakeel (Dentist) and Dr Afshan (Surgeon).
