AAWAJ urges Govt to prepare policy for promotion of art, culture

JAMMU, Sept 16: All Artist’s Welfare Association of Jammu (AAWAJ) urged the Government to prepare a cultural policy for the promotion of art and culture.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Kamal Sharma, President of the Association said that the artists fraternity is called the social scientist, which elevates the society as well as the Nation, but the concerned institutions are not paying heed towards it.
He added that for the past four years, Abhinav Theatre, which is the only auditorium in the Jammu division to cater the needs of the artists, is non-functional. Neither the previous nor the present Government seems to be serious to make it functional, he added and stressed upon to open the theatre at the earliest.
Dr Sharma stated that the Academic Complex is in shabby condition and needs to be renovated at the earliest so that this could be saved for the generations to come.
He also stressed for equal distribution of the budget for the promotion and development of art, culture and languages.
He added that the meeting of the Central Committee has not been conducted for the past so many years, which is not a good sign for the promotion of the culture.
Urja Singh while addressing the conference urged the Government to enhance the fee of the artists at par with radio and TV artists.
Dr Baljit Raina said that there is urgent need of up-gradation of the Doordarshan Kendra Jammu at par with other Kendras so that it can be considered as full-fledged Doordarshan like Kashmir.
Surinder Singh Manhas said that the conspiracy is being hatched to abolish the Dogri language and it will not be tolerated.
Among others present were Nitin Sethi, Amit Katyal, Rani, Daya Ram (Daya), Satish Shant and Vijay Sharma.
