Two killed in NH mishap

KATHUA, Sept 18: Two pedestrians were killed at National Highway near Krishanpur Kandi in Chan Arorian area of the Hiranagar tehsil after they were hit by a speedy Maruti car bearing registration number JK21-5403 early this morning when they were on a morning walk.
The deceased were identified as Daya Ram, 65, S/o Shanu Ram and Pushpa Devi 50, W/o Kali Dass. Both of them were residents of Krishanpur Kandi and were on a morning walk when the rashly driven car which was on its way from Lakhanpur to Jammu hit them.
After they were hit by the car, the two fell in a pool of blood on the roadside. The villagers rushed to the spot and tried to shift them to SDH Hiranagar but they succumbed to their injuries in the way.
The driver of the car fled from the spot abandoning the vehicle. A team of police from Raj Bagh Police Station led by SHO Pardeep Singh has seized the car and launched a manhunt for the driver whose negligence was responsible for the death of two pedestrians.
The Police has also registered a case under relevant Sections of the law. The dead bodies of the two were handed over to the families by police after postmortem for last rites.
Meanwhile, the people of the area have expressed grave resentment over the increasing road accidents on NH especially the hit and run cases.
