‘Mann ki Baat’ made me realise power of people: Modi

NEW DELHI :  On first anniversary of his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said feedback to his monthly talks with countrymen have made him realise the massive power of the people and the prevailing positivity in the country despite all talks of negativity.       ”The Government should realise that real power resides beyond their corridors, with the masses, Mr Modi said in his 12th edition of ‘Mann ki baat’ which concentrated on the impact of programme as he came to know from the feedback of the listeners.
”The real information came from the bottom,” he said assuring the people that the Government was working on all the suggestions that have been received from them.        ”Man ki Baat’ to vastav me ‘aap ke man ki baat’ ho gai hai’ (In fact, this programme of my talk about what I feel has really become a programme about what you feel), ”he said.
Mr Modi said he had never thought that his appeal for some small acts like purchasing Khadi, taking selfie with a daughter, giving up cooking gas cylinder subsidy by the rich, and working for cleanliness in one’s locality  would have so much impact.
He said he was surprised that among those who gave up gas subsidy on his appeal were not rich but retired teachers and elderly women from the lower middle class.          He also noted with happiness that his appeal for purchasing at least one item of khadi made in his first edition of  ‘Mann ki baat’ on October 2 last year led to doubling of Khadi sale.
The Prime Minister also used the occasion to appeal to the people, especially the youth, to become aware as voters and exercise their franchise.         In this connection, he praised the role of the Election Commission too, saying that it had developed into a facilitator instead of being just a regulator.
