Gangbal yatra flagged off

JAMMU, Sept 20: The 7th Annual Gangbal yatra in Kashmir started today from Naranag base camp in Kashmir.
Organized by Harmukh Ganga Gangbal Trust and supported by All Parties Migrants Co-ordination Committee in Kashmir, the Chhari was flagged off at the base camp by Commanding Officer 24 RR and SSP Ganderbal at 7 AM here and the same will reach Gangbal at an altitude of 14500 ft. by evening .
Around 100 yatris are taking part in this year’s yatra. The yatra is being led by Vinod Pandit, Chairman of APMCC. All security arrangements for the safety of the yatris have already been made.
The sacred puja will be performed on September 21 on the banks of Gangbal lake.
Speaking to reporters Vinod Pandit , said that Gangbal yatra is being organized successfully for the last 7 years now despite militancy in the Valley.
Prominent among those who made this yatra successful are Sunil Kumar Trakroo Sr. Co-ordinator of APMCC and Usha Nakhasi, Trustee of Gagnbal Ganga Trust. Other notable personalities of the APMCC include Ravinder Badam, Sandeep Raj Koul, Manish Zijoo, Vinod Koul, Vishal Sharma, Chand Ji Bhat, Rakesh Dhar, Ashok Singh Jamwal, Pradeep Pandita and Pawan Durani, besides others.
Gangbal lake is situated at an altitude of 14500ft. from sea level and has been famous for offering ritual Puja to the ancestors and  deceased of the family. Gangbal features in the ancient history of Kashmir in Purans and Rajtarangini too.
