Glowing tributes paid to 1965 war veterans

JAMMU,  Sept 23: The glowing tributes were paid today also by army to the valiant soldiers and officers who laid down their lives during Indo-Pak war of 1965 in various functions organized in connection with Golden jubilee celebrations of the 1965 war.
The functions were held at various places in which besides the army jawans, the scholars and prominent citizens also recalled the role of these jawans and officers who defeated the vicious designs of enemy during the war and forced it eat a humble pie.
Department of National Security Studies in collaboration with Tiger Division organised a seminar titled “Shauryanjali”-Commemorating 1965 war at Central University, Jammu, today. The seminar along with a photo exhibition was conducted to show of valour and sacrifice of Indian Armed Forces personnel for protecting the borders of the country. The exhibition had re-created the battle scene in various sectors beginning from Rann of Kutch to the ceasefire and Tashkent Summit. The battles of various types were also on display in the exhibition.
The event was started with the inauguration of photo exhibition by Professor Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Jammu. The exhibition was to honour the heroes of the nation who had made supreme sacrifice during the Indo-Pak War of 1965 and also to foster spirit of adventure, team work and camaraderie.
The keynote address was delivered by Major General Sanjeev Narain, General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division. He focused on the Indian strategy against Pakistan during the time of war. Earlier, Professor Deepak Raj Gupta, HoD of National Security Studies, welcomed everyone to the event.
The 1965 war veterans were felicitated with mementoes by the General Officer Commanding and the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ashok Aima. Major General J.S. Jamwal (Retd), Captain. P.P. Singh (Retd), Captain Yashpal Sharma (Retd), Subedar (Honorary Captain) Ajit Singh (Retd), Riflemen Puran Chand (Retd), Naib Subedar. T.R. Sharma (Retd), Subedar. B.R. Sharma (Retd) inspired the young generation with the anecdotes from their war memories. They shared their experience with the students. The documentary film based on the 1965 war was also screened for the audience to give an insight to the background of the war.
Brigadier Arvind Yadav, Commander Artillery Brigade elaborated about Indian Strategic Response to 1965 war. He talked about the ‘Operation Nepal’ and ‘Operation Riddle’ in the victory of 1965 war. The students had a questions and answers session with the Commander about the various aspects of the 1965 war. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. J.Jeganaathan, Assistant. Professor of the National Security Studies.
As a part of commemoration of 1965 war, a high tea with Air Force Veterans was organised at the Air Station, today. Air Commodore Ashutosh Lal, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jammu along with other officers and Air Force Veterans attended the function at Akash Auditorium, Air Force Station Jammu. While addressing the Air Officer thank the Air Veterans for their contribution to build the Air Force. He urged them to continue to bless Air Warriors so that they can build the Air Force which can protect the country from enemy’s evil design. He also appraised Air Veterans about the importance and roll of the station.
