JAMMU, Sept 23: High Court today stayed the Urdu test for the posts of Naib Tehsildar and issued notices to the State and others returnable within two weeks.
The stay was granted in a petition filed by one Azhar Khan, who challenged the Urdu test for the post of Naib-Tehsildar.
Advocate Abhinav Sharma appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner, who is a graduate in engineering, has applied for the post of Naib Tehsildar in response to the Advertisement Notice dated April 7, 2015. “The petitioner is aggrieved over eligibility prescribed in terms of the Notice dated July 31, 2015 which provides descriptive test for Urdu subject only”, Advocate Sharma said.
He further submitted that in terms of the Advertisement Notice and the relevant rules, petitioner is having only working knowledge of Urdu, adding  “while standard prescribed for other subjects is objective type test, for the Urdu the descriptive type test has been prescribed only to exclude the petitioner and other candidates like him who have not pursued course of study with Urdu as Subject”.
After hearing Advocate Abhinav Sharma in length, Justice Bansi Lal Bhat put on hold the written test for Naib Tehsildar and issued notice to the State and others returnable within two weeks.
