Srinagar, Sept 24: As their hunger strike enters 24th day, the agitating National Youth Corps (NYC) employees who have camped at Pratap Park here in city centre today said that they will continue their protest even on Eid-ul-Adha which falls on September 25 tomorrow.
Scores of NYC employees are on hunger strike since September 1 demanding the implementation of a 2014 Cabinet order passed by erstwhile National Conference and Congress coalition Government. If the order is implemented, the NYC employees would be inducted into various Government departments.
However the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) have not implemented the order so far despite repeated assurances to the NYC employees by Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP president and Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu.
“We will not end our protest come what may. Our hunger strike would continue even on Eid days and we have decided to offer the Eid prayers tomorrow here at Pratap Park at 10 am,” Asif Ali Bhat, the State president of NYC Association, told Excelsior.
Not only NYC employees from Kashmir are on hunger strike but their counter-parts from Jammu are also with them. There are nearly 70 NYC employees from Jammu who are also on hunger strike here.
Since their hunger strike began, dozens of politicians, social activists and employees leaders thronged the venue of the protest. Notably among those include senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and also Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami.
