JAMMU, Sept 28: As a part of week-long ‘Clean Jammu City Abhiyan”, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) undertook a drive against the use of Polythene carry bags.
The drive was carried out in Maheshpura Chowk, Resham Ghar Colony, Bakshi Nagar, New Plot and Rehari Chungi.
The team inspected various shops and other outlets and seized polythene carry bags and realized Rs 7,000 as compounding fee from the defaulters on spot.
Besides this, on 3rd consecutive day of the Abhiyan, a rally comprising of students from various educational institutions was flagged off by Shamsher Singh Manhas, Member Parliament in presence of Sat Pal Sharma, MLA, Jammu West and Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner, JMC.
The rally started from Paloura Chowk and culminated at Loran Park, Paloura, where a colourful cultural programme was held.
First of all an oath was administered for cleanliness, wherein, it was pledged by all to keep the environment neat and clean and to spare 100 hours every year to dedicate himself/herself for doing the cleanliness and hoped that this step would lead to make India clean.
The short plays were also staged by the Students of Delhi Public School and by the artists of Abha Theater Group by giving message to the society regarding the importance of cleanliness.
In the park the saplings provided by Department of Ecology and Remote Sensing were planted by the students and by Municipal Commissioner.
