JAMMU, Oct 1: Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta today charged that the Opposition can’t accept that they were no more in power, a charge NC leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah immediately rubbished saying “we have happily accepted being in opposition, from day one.
“The Opposition can’t accept that they are no more in power,’’ Gupta said, adding the Opposition bills in the Assembly for scrapping beef ban law were meant to create trouble.
His reaction came when some media persons approached him in Srinagar to know his stand on the private member’s bills brought by the NC, CPM and an Independent MLA for scrapping ban on beef.
Reacting to Gupta’s remarks, Omar, who is leader of single largest opposition party in the Assembly, said: “we happily accepted being in opposition, from day one, Speaker can’t seem to grow to his position of high office’’.
“So much for the Speaker being custodian of the entire House and rise above petty politics. This Speaker clearly biased against the opposition,’’ Omar tweeted.
