JAMMU, Oct 2: Two Army officers were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in hit a stationary truck on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Sandh Bari, Ghagwal in Samba district early this morning.
The victims, identified as, Colonel Yogesh Kumar Gautam 45 of Lucknow UP and Major Harish Deepak Johri, 35 resident of Pune Maharashtra died on the spot when their vehicle hit the truck in Ghagwal area around 5 am, a police officer said.
The Army officers were on their way to Punjab.
The bodies have been recovered and shifted to district hospital at Samba for postmortem and legal formalities, he said. Later the bodies were handed over to army after postmortem.
Both the officers were posted in 120 Territorial Army (TA) Battalion at Udhampur, he said.
Defence spokesperson of Udhampur based Northern Command, Col S D Goswami said that Army has initiated Court of Inquiry (CoI) into the incident.
The Samba Police has also registered a case under relevant Sections of the law.
