SRINAGAR, Oct 4: The flood-hit traders and shopkeepers of Lal Chowk are holding a protest tomorrow against Government allegedly for not compensating their losses that occurred due to last year’s deluge.
Traders’ Association Lal Chowk president, Ali Mohammad Matto, told Excelsior that they would hold a protest from 11 am to 1 pm tomorrow in the city centre for lack of compensation. “We were asked to fill form and complete other formalities but still we have not been compensated,” he said.
Matto accused the State Government of meting out step motherly treatment with the traders of Lal Chowk and said only they are being deprived of compensation. “The flood hit shopkeepers and traders of other areas including downtown and Rajbagh have been compensated but we don’t understand why we are only being ignored,” he said.
However, he said, there won’t be any shutdown in city centre tomorrow and the business activities would continue as per routine.
