Over Rs 5 cr fine realized for wrong parking

Srinagar, Oct 5: Traffic Department has realized a fine of over five crore rupees since December 2011 from those who park their cars wrongly.
In a written reply to MLC Firdous Ahmad Tak, the Home Department has said that the Traffic Police have realized Rs 5, 18, 70, 292 by way of compounding of challan for wrong parking from the violators from 23 December 2011 up to ending August this year while Rs 1, 22, 74, 827 have been paid to private crane owners whose cranes are being used to lift the wrongly parked vehicles.
The Home Department has said that an amount of Rs 600 is being realized from violators for wrong parking as towing charges. “Out of the said amount, Rs 242 per lift, is paid to the owner/ supplier as crane charges whereas the remaining amount of 358 rupees (together with fine imposed for wrong parking, obstruction etc) is deposited in Government treasury,” the Home Department said.
It further said that the charges on driver, fuel and complete maintenance of cranes’ are borne by the owners/ suppliers.
