JAMMU, Oct 6: Alleging large scale favouritism, nepotism and corruption in the process of selections conducted by various recruitment agencies for Govt jobs, former Minister and chairman of NPP Harshdev Singh has sought change in recruitment policy by abolition of the interview system and making selections on the basis of academic merit.
In a press statement here Mr Singh said that there were several instances where process of interview was abused and merit subverted by awarding disproportionate marks to the tail-enders. He said it was established that helmsman who appoint their favourites as members of the recruitment agencies and then use the said members for getting favours for their blue eyed candidates in the viva voce thus vitiating the sanctity of the entire selection process.
Citing the latest instance of recently notified selection list of candidates for teachers post in district Jammu, Mr Singh pointed out that two daughters of a former bureaucrat having 10+2 qualification had been selected as teacher by awarding them high marks in interview and ignoring several others with post graduation and B Ed degrees. He said that there were many more instances where candidates with lesser qualification and lesser merit had been given the benefit of viva voce.
Seeking the abolition of interview process particularly for class III and Class IV posts, NPP leader said that this would ensure transparency in the selection process besides restoring the faith of unemployed youth in the system. He said that there is no justification for holding interview for the class- IV and ministerial staff posts and the provision of interview in such posts has only increased the scope for manipulation, manoeuverability and corruption.
