JAMMU, Oct 6: A man was injured as two groups clashed in broad day-light outside the court complex at Janipura this morning with one of the miscreants opening fire with his revolver. Police have arrested six miscreants from both the groups while authorities have ordered attachment of SHO Janipura and suspension of Incharge Police Post, High Court.
The clash led to protests from the Advocates, who strongly resented open movement of miscreants outside the court complex and even use of weapons, triggering panic. Police officers met the Advocates and pacified them. Another meeting between them was scheduled to be held at 2 pm tomorrow.
DIG Jammu-Kathua range Ashkoor Wani told the Excelsior that one of the groups headed by Surinder Singh alias Kala had gone to the court complex for registration of documents while another group headed by Ranjodh Singh alias Nalwa reached there for court attendance.
As both the groups were sitting on benches outside the court complex, some of them started hurling abuses at each other leading to scuffle. They openly grappled leading to panic among the Advocates, clients and other people present outside the court complex, who ran helter-skelter for the safety.
During clash between the two groups, one of the miscreants opened firing with his licenses weapon, which hit the foot of Surinder Singh alias Kala, causing him injuries.
Police parties later reached the spot and arrested six accused. The weapon of offence was also seized. Injured Kala was admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu but his condition was stable.
Six persons, who were arrested from the spot, have been identified as Jasvinder Singh son of Gurbachan Singh R/o Nanak Nagar, Davinder Singh alias Bunty son of Rajinder Singh R/o New Plots, Karanjeet Singh son of Amarjeet Singh R/o Patoli Janipur, Rajinder Sharma alias Raju son of Subash Chander R/o Old Janipura, Ranjodh Singh Nalwa son of Gurbaksh Singh R/o Talab Tillo and Pranvat Singh son of Man Mohandas Singh R/o Gadigarh.
Police authorities immediately ordered attachment of SHO Janipura Inspector Ajit Singh to the District Police Line (DPL) and suspension of High Court Incharge Police Post Sub Inspector Daleep Singh. An inquiry into the incident has been entrusted to SP City (North) Shiv Kumar Chouhan.
DIG Jammu-Kathua range Ashkoor Wani along with other senior police officers met the Advocates and pacified them after an hour long talks. He assured them that action will be taken against the police officers responsible for dereliction of duty.
However, police officers and Advocate will meet at 2 pm tomorrow again to discuss security arrangements in the court complex so that such incidents didn’t take place in future.
Sources said police have seized the weapon used in firing and it was licensed revolved owned by Davinder Singh alias Bunty. They added that police was questioning the accused as to who had fired at whom and who was the target. All these things were under investigations and all accused were being quizzed to ascertain the facts.
Police have seized revolver, 5 live catrdiges, one empty cartridge and one kirch from the spot. Two separate FIRs have been lodged in the case. One FIR No. 180/2015 has been registered under Sections 307, 341, 323, 427 RPC and 3/25 and 4/25 Arms Act. Another FIR No. 181/2015 was registered under Sections 321, 323 and 427 RPC. More arrests in the case were not ruled out.
