JAMMU, Aug 25:Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a workshop here today on current Assam situation to educate the workers about its reasons and the various measures taken by the party to defuse the situation.
The prominent speakers at the workshop included BJP general secretary (organization) Ashok Koul and National Executive member of the Party and its chief spokesperson of the State Dr Jitendra Singh.
In his address Mr Koul highlighted the measures taken by the Party to defuse the situation in Assam. He informed about various steps taken by it regarding collection of relief and donations for distribution of relief among the people.
Mr Koul urged the Partymen in the State to come to the rescue of the violence hit people of Assam and show total solidarity with them by making liberal donations.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Jitendra Singh said it is a matter of research subject that why after last 65 years of independence those State and regions known as peace zones has risen one after the other as a State of unrest. It was first Kashmir, followed by Tamilians and now Assamese, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said at independence the founding fathers of the republic and the veteran Assamese leader Gopinath Bordloi had come to unanimous conclusion that for distinct regions like Assam a conscious effort will be required to preserve their language and cultural identity. But soon after the independence migrations from other parts like Bengal started to take place especially in Assam region of Kokrajar.
He said irony of the fate is that the Congress led Government at the Centre and Assam turned a blind eye in the hope that these migrants were adding to party vote bank. Meanwhile after the formation of Bangladesh illegal foreign infiltrators also started coming in with the result that today according to Director of Guwhati based Social Research Centre Walter Fernandes there are over two crore illegal migrants living in Assam, Dr Jitendra Singh added.
He said the situation is so chaotic that it is difficult to identify who is a native and who is a foreigner. At the same time the 67647 kilometers Indo-Bangladesh border is totally vulnerable and this has all led to Pakistan to add to this mischief and further its designs of proxy war with India by pushing infiltrators through North East on the pattern of Kashmir.
