Militants give slip to troops

Srinagar, Oct 8: Militants today gave slip to security forces at Koungnoo area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Acting on information regarding the presence of three militants, Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group of police cordoned off Koungnoo area in Tarkawangum today.
Militants present there opened fire on the search party which was retaliated triggering an encounter. Militants managed to break the cordon and give slip to the joint party taking the advantage of paddy field and dense vegetations.
Security forces launched searches in the adjoining villages to nab the militants. However, when reports last came, no one has been arrested.
In North Kashmir’s Palhalan area, a group of youth protesting against alleged raids by security pelted stones at police this afternoon.
Scores of youth pelted stones upon joint team of Army’s 29 RR and SOG in Raipora, Palhallan after they conducted raids in the area to arrest some youths allegedly involved in stone pelting. The forces, meanwhile, fired few teargas shells to contain the protests.
Meanwhile, the operation in Bandipora that was launched yesterday after killing of a police officer Mohammad Altaf in Bandipora after he was chasing LeT divisional commander, Abu Qasim.
The operation in Hafrooda forests in North Kashmir is also going on where four Army men were killed two days ago.
