JAMMU, Oct 8: Workers Welfare Association of Irrigation Department held protest to project their long pending demands.
The members of the Association assembled at Exhibition Ground and raised slogans in favour of their long pending issues. The protest was led by Tariq Shah.
While speaking, Tariq Shah said that they are protesting to raise their voice against the injustice being done so far with all those employees who have put their lives into the service of the people.
He stated that their services are not given due weightage and they have not been paid salaries as a result their families are at the verge of starvation.
“Despite raising our demands with the concerned department and officers several times, nothing has been done till today, which forced us to come out and protest”, he added.
He said that all the need based workers should be brought under PDL scheme and those who have completed 10 to 15 years of service must be regularized.
We appeal to Chief Minister and the Minister of concerned department that there are 961 need based workers. All can be brought under PDL scheme and can be regularized so that their children also have a future, he added.
These workers work for about one month but get salary of only seven days which is great injustice with them, he said, and appealed to the Government to find a permanent solution to the problem of these workers.
General secretary of the association Kameshwar, Jagdish Chander from Irrigation Union, Bodh Raj, President, Sub Division Ramnagar, Aman Gupta, Rashpaul Singh, Sudesh Kumar, Qayum besides many others participated in the protest.
