SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution and Tribal Affairs, Ch. Zulfkar Ali today reviewed the implementation of “Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana” (VKY) at a meeting held here at Civil Secretariat.
The aim and objective of this centrally sponsored scheme is to ensure all round development of tribal population.
The Minister said that the scheme focuses on improving the quality of life in tribal areas like strengthening the network of education, providing sustainable employment and improving life of tribal population. He called upon the concerned officers to play their active role in the effective implementation of this important programme in Jammu and Kashmir.
Promotion and protection of tribal culture and heritage, accelerated economic development of tribal areas, health, housing, safe drinking water for all at doorsteps, promotion of sports in tribal areas are other main ingredients of the scheme. The scheme also envisages thrust on creation of co-educational residential schools with hostel facilities in low literary tribes, and low literary blocks.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has already set up a Project Appraisal Committee headed by the Union Secretary to overlook the implementation of the scheme.
Commissioner Secretary, Tribal Affairs, Ashok Parmar, Secretary in Tribal Affairs, Ali Raza, and the representatives of Social Welfare Department were present in the meeting.
