Clashes in Old City, scribe injured

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Violent clashes between protesters and security forces raged in Nowhatta area of Old City today after Friday prayers leaving a news cameraperson injured.
Dozens of youths chanting slogans assembled inside the compound of historic Jamia Masjid soon after congregational prayers were over. The youths raised flags of several militant outfits.
The protesters pelted stones on police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel (CRPF) deployed in Nowhatta. The security forces responded back with teargas shells and pepper gas grenades.
As the clashes were underway, a cameraperson working with News X sustained injuries after he was hit by a stone in his head. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment where he received 4 stitches.
The clashes later spread to Rajouri Kadal and Gojwara areas in the vicinity of Nowhatta and continued till late in the evening.
