JAMMU, Oct 9: Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to observe 113th Birthday of Bharat Ratna Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan as Save Democracy Day ( Lok-Tantra Raksha Divas) falling on October 11. This was announced by BJP Senior leader Chander Mohan Sharma (Adv.), while addressing media persons along with State Spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan and Senior leader Surinder Sharma.
Sharma said that the J&K Unit of BJP has decided to celebrate the day at JP Chowk, Below Gumat, Jammu. The significance of the place is that bust of Lok Nayak JP stands erected therein. He said that all those individuals who were detained under MISA, DIR and other preventive laws, during emergency in 1975 by then Congress Government led by Mrs Indira Gandhi, have been invited in the program. Moreover the political activists, who fought against imposition of black rule of emergency by remaining underground or over ground have also been invited.
The pledge to save democracy from all dictatorial, separatist, fundamentalist, terrorist mentalities will also be taken by all the crusaders committed to save the Democracy, he said and added that BJP National secretary, RP Singh and ministers in the State Government and Legislators shall all so join the programme.
He appealed to all those who were jailed and who fought against emergency to join the program.
Chander Mohan Sharma, who is also the head of Namami Gange Project, Tawi Rejuvenation and Tawi Andolan, expressed satisfaction over restoration of Phallain-Mandaal bridge.
He said that the inhabitants of 56 villages of this area shall have a thorough way to their villages. Their road connectivity had got cut off due to last year’s flood fury.
“Now, when the temporary approach, which was given to them to reach their homes through Bhagwati Nagar Bridge of Tawi by braking its protection wall is required to be immediately stopped”, he said and called upon PWD authorities to immediately close illegal Kacha Roads made to facilitate the encroachers of Tawi Basin Land.
