JAMMU, Oct 9: A police team today re-arrested ‘supari killer’ Sunny Choudhary alias Sunny Baba from Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, bordering Punjab, who had escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital on August 22.
Sunny Baba was arrested along with his associate Avneet Singh alias Naggi alias Abhi son of Vikram Singh R/o Mussa Chak, RS Pura, who had helped the ‘supari killer’ escape from the GMC Jammu.
Sunny Baba was involved in 13 FIRs while 14th FIR was registered against him at Bakshi Nagar police station after his escape from the GMC Jammu, where he had been shifted for treatment from the jail. Police had arrested and suspended the guard on duty with him after his escape.
DIG Jammu-Kathua range Ashkoor Wani told the Excelsior that police used scientific techniques to re-arrest Sunny Baba.
“We were on the job right from the day Sunny Baba escaped from the GMC Jammu. Our police officers were tracking him. He finally fell into our trap today,’’ Wani said.
SSP Jammu Uttam Chand told a press conference that Sunny Baba was arrested from Lakhanpur along with his associate Avneet Singh.
The accused had stayed at Badhi in Himachal Pradesh after his escape from the Medical College and later shifted to Pathankot, where he planned to settle and run his activities.
A police party comprising SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Bishnesh Kumar, SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Ashwani Sharma and SOG Sub Inspector Ajay Engotra was chasing the criminal from Himachal Pradesh and Pathankot and finally apprehended him at Lakhanpur this morning and shifted him to Bakshi Nagar police station, where he was wanted.
