Speaker directs inquiry into Education Deptt mess

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Speaker Legislative Assembly today directed the Government to conduct time bound inquiry into alleged mess in the Education Department.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta, directed the Government to conduct inquiry after BJP MLAs led by R S Pathania rejected the report prepared by the Chief Secretary on the alleged mess.
The Speaker had directed the Chief Secretary to report to the House about allegations of mess in the Education Department that has led to lack of staff in various schools.
The report was presented before the House yesterday and BJP MLAs rejected it and demanded a debate on it. But the Speaker directed the inquiry and action to be taken within 15 days.
During Zero Hour, NC MLA Javed Rana raised the issue of teachers transfers in his constituency. He lashed out at the Education Minister for giving absolute powers to the Commissioner Secretary.”You have given powers to Secretary. If we give power to the Secretaries, what for is the political process then?”, Rana asked.
Responding to Rana, the Education Minister said that the pass percentage in Rana’s constituency in Government schools was the lowest last year. He said that the department is taking revolutionary step in Poonch where surplus teaching staff is being used for assisting the children of lesser God to do home work in 30 centres across the district.
