Srinagar, Oct 10: After concern shown by the legislators over the paucity of time, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today appealed the Speaker of the Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, that from now onwards the Assembly session should be of two sittings instead of one.
The demand of extending time of the Assembly session and two sittings was raised by Congress MLA, G M Saroori, a couple of times during the proceedings of the House. He appealed the Speaker that the House should make a consensus that the session should be extended to 100 days in a year so that people’s concerns and issues are raised in the Assembly.
Responding to the concern of the MLAs that the session was short and they couldn’t raise the issues of their respective constituencies, Mufti said that he could have extended the time but everyone has his own engagements after October 10. “Session was kept till October 10 and after this everybody has his programme fixed. If I would have time, I would have extended the session”, he said.
“I agree with Azad Sahib (former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad) that he kept two sessions. One, in the morning and another in the afternoon. I want consensus of the House that the next sessions of the Assembly should be of two sittings. Legislators have to raise the issues of their constituencies and they need more time”, said Chief Minister.
Mufti appealed the Speaker that from now onwards the Assembly session should have two sittings. “I appeal Speaker that the next session should be of two sittings. Instead of 3 p.m. the second sitting should start at 4 p.m.
