Srinagar, Oct 11: The 11th J&K Science Congress will begin at the University of Kashmir on Monday and deliberate on different dimensions of Climate Change with special reference to Jammu and Kashmir.
The theme of the Congress is “Social, Scientific and Economic Dimensions of Climate Change.”
The organizers are expecting 600 to 700 research findings to be presented by individual participants during the three-day deliberations.
A large number of young budding scientists are expected to participate in the Congress which will be inaugurated by Governor NN Vohra, at Convocation Complex of the University at 10.30 am.
According to organizers, the recession of glaciers, erratic and scanty snowfall, change in growing season, change in species’ composition, shifting of vegetation to higher altitudes and shrinking of wetlands are a few of major indicators of climate change in the Himalayan State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress-being organized in collaboration with J&K State Science, Technology & Innovation Council-shall broadly deliberately on the following sub-themes: Agriculture, Forests and other vegetation types; Anthropological and Behavioral Sciences and its linkages to climate change; Effects of Climate Change on Ecosystems and Biodiversity; Food and Water Security under Climate Change; Social, Political and Human dimensions of Climate Change, and State of Knowledge on Climate Change, Mitigation and Adaptation.
