Sikh bodies stage protest, block National Highway

JAMMU, Oct 15: Various Sikh bodies today held protest demonstrations at Digiana in Jammu, Simbal Camp near Miran Sahib and at Hatli Morh in Kathua over the act of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and blocked Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for several hours.
In Jammu, a large number of Sikh community members  including members of various Sikh organizations assembled near Digiana Ashram at around 9 am and started protest demonstration. They came out on the busy highway and blocked the movement of vehicular traffic. They were raising slogans against  Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Punjab Government.
They protested the killing of  two devotees and injuries to over 200 during in police firing on peaceful procession at Faridkote in Punjab. They strongly condemned the act of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and demanded action against the accused persons.
They shouted loud slogans against Punjab Government and also brunt the effigy of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The movement of traffic remained disrupted for about 40 minutes and later police restored traffic on the highway. Member DGPC Jammu Avtar Singh Khalsa was leading the protest.
Similar protest demonstration was held at Hatli Morh in Kathua by various Sikh bodies and they blocked National Highway for about half an hour. Members of DGPC also joined the protest. They expressed strong resentment over the incident of firing at Behbal Kallan in Faridkote wherein, some miscreants showed disrespect to  Holy Guru Granth Sahib. They demanded stern action against the people responsible for it. They also condemned act of police firing in which two persons were killed and many others were injured. However, police later reached the spot and ensured movement of traffic on busy highway.
The Sikh youth also held protest demonstration near Simbal Camp and blocked Jammu- R S Pura Road for about an hour in this connection.
Meanwhile,  a Management Committee of Gurdwara Baba Chanda Singh ji and several other  Sikh bodies including Nirvair Social Organisation in a meeting held here today strongly condemned the  act of showing most disrespect to Holy Guru Granth Sahib and demanded action against the accused persons. They said that desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib will not be tolerated  and Punjab Govt should take immediate action. They also condemned attack  on peaceful procession in which two persons were killed and many others injured. Sikh leaders Sukhbir Singh and Mohan Singh spoke on the occasion.
District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC), Rajouri in a meeting held today under the chairmanship of Bhopinder Singh also condemned this act of desecration and killing of two persons in police action at Faridkote. They appealed the Punjab Govt to take serious note of it and bring the culprits to justice.
