SRINAGAR : The 300-km-long national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, has been closed citing security reasons following clashes in south Kashmir over the death of a Kashmiri trucker, who was injured in a petrol bomb attack by protesters over beef rumours at Udhampur in Jammu region on October 9.
Zahid Bhat, who alongwith two others, including a policeman, received burn injuries in the attack, succumbed in the Safdurjung hospital in New Delhi yesterday, evoking massive protests at several places on the highway in Anantnag district.
“We have suspended traffic on the highway today in view of yesterday’s clashes as a precautionary measure,” a traffic police official told UNI here.
He said no vehicle was allowed from Jammu or Srinagar today as there was apprehension of violence. (UNI)
