JAMMU, Oct 19:  Up in arms against suspension of three students from Jammu University, ABVP activists today held a strong protest demonstration on the campus and forced cancellation of an exam in the Department of Law.
Shouting slogans and demanding revocation of the suspension, the agitating ABVP activists also got the class work suspended in some Departments and blocked the Jammu University main entrance for around three hours.
It may be recalled that JU had ordered suspension of three students following alleged misbehavior by them during a protest by ABVP activists on October 13 evening.
This morning, a number of JU students, affiliated to ABVP, assembled on the campus and got the classes boycotted in Law School, Law Department and a few other departments. Shouting slogans, they marched towards the JU Main Gate and blocked the entrance from 11 a.m to 2 p.m, during which a strong protest was held there.
The protest demonstration was also addressed by some ABVP activists, who announced to continue the protests till suspension of the three students is revoked by Jammu University. They also demanded removal of the Vice-Chancellor. Those who addressed the students, included Gurpreet Singh, Vishal, Bhavishya Pandotra and also the suspended students Madhu Sharma, Kanav Sharma and Deepak Gupta.
Later, the protesting ABVP activists proceeded towards the Law Department, where 6th semester exam was going to be held. Despite some opposition by a few students, the ABVP activists did not allow conduct of the exam, which was ultimately forced to be cancelled by the JU authorities.
“Even as all other examinations in the University today were held smoothly, only semester-VI exam of Law Department could not be conducted because of disruption by the agitating students,” said Controlled Examination, Sanjeev Mahajan. The said exam has been now scheduled to be held on November 17, he added.
