MENDHAR, Oct 20: The villagers from Ucchad and Chhajla area of Mankote tehsil in Poonch today held protest and blocked road for about two hours in protest against the alleged sub-standard road maintenance work being carried out by the GREF authorities.
Reports said that villagers noticed that black topping work being initiated by the GREF authorities on the road was of very poor quality. They noticed that the new coal-tar layer being laid on the road, was disappearing after the vehicles started moving on it within a few days. They held strong protest and blocked road at around 5 pm. They were joined by local Sarpanches and Panches who demanded inquiry into the matter and action against the officials concerned.
Later, Tehsildar Mankote and SHO Mendhar reached the spot. Tehsildar assured the villagers to hold an inquiry into the matter and take up the issue with the Chief Engineer concerned. He also talked to SDM Mendhar over the issue. The villagers then lifted dharna and allowed movement of vehicles at around 7 pm.
