Prof Ishar visits JU’s Zoology Department

JAMMU, Aug 27: Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu along with the team of officials paid visit to Department of Zoology, here today.
Number of on-going research projects were put forward before the Vice-Chancellor during his visit. Prof Ishar maintained that the onus is on the researchers to ‘excite and invite’ about the work they do so that more students are attracted towards this field.
The Vice Chancellor visited various research laboratories of the Department and had an interaction with the students.
Earlier, Prof DN Sahi in his power point presentation dwelt in detail about the growth of Department since 1971 and said that many new specializations were added and with the result in the year 1998 four new full fledged Departments of Zoology, Botany, Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology were introduced in the University and moreover Zoology Department is assisting Poonch Campus in establishment of P G Sericulture programme and Institute of Human Genetics.
Prof Sahi also put light on Mapping of Biodiversity of Jammu & Kashmir at Genetic, Species & Ecosystem level, developing Cultural Techniques for Prawn, fish, turtle, biology and management of insect pests of agricultural crops, horticulture and forest trees, screening and detection of genetic diseases in human which are the thrust areas of research in the department .
Prof Rekha Chaudhary, Dean Research Studies, Prof N K Tripathi, Prof J S Tara, Prof Roopma Gandotra, Prof Seema Langer, Jaikumar Sharma, OSD to Vice-Chancellor, Faculty and other officials were also present on the occasion.
