JAMMU, Oct 21:  The preliminary round of 6th Annual Inter-Collegiate (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest on the topic: “Is development and growth enough to reduce discontent in society”? for Silver Rolling Trophy,  instituted by  Governor N N Vohra,  was organized by Department of Higher Education at Government  College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
30 students of different Degree Colleges of Jammu province participated and mesmerized the audience with their presentations and views to reduce discontent emanating in the masses.
Six students were selected for the final round of Northern Zone Inter-State Declamation Contest. The first prize was clinched by Shivika Thakur of GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, 2nd prize was won by  Atika Sharma of GDC Kathua and the 3rd prize went in favour of  Faisal Arif Rishu of Govt MAM College, Jammu.
Besides this, three consolation prizes were given to the students;  Shubham Sharma of GDC Hiranagar,  Akhilesh Kotwal, GDC Bhaderwah and  Nazish Nawaz of GDC Doda.
Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, State Legislative Assembly, was the chief guest whereas S Daleep Singh, former Commissioner/ Secretary, Transport and Prof  Nalini Kohli, former Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, were the Observers for the event.
Prof Surinder Gupta, former Dean & Prof Medicine, SKAUST, R S Pura Campus, Prof  Monika Sethi, Department of English, University of Jammu & Prof  Rita Munshi, former Principal were the adjucators to evaluate the performance of the participants.
Kavinder Gupta,  applauded the participants for their varied and diverse views to decrease the quantum and magnitude of dissatisfaction from the society for its holistic development.
Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College,  presented welcome address while Prof  Seema Mir presented key note address in which she discussed that this kind of contest provides vibrant and vivacious platform for exchange of ideas and emergence of new thoughts.
Dr  Sudhanshu Sharma, Convenor, Declamation Organizing Committee, presented vote of thanks.
