JAMMU, Oct 23: BJP State spokesperson, Prof. Virender Gupta has condemned Omar Abdullah statement that he made to the Canadian delegation led by its Deputy High Commissioner, Jess Dutton, saying Government of India should engage people who don’t see a solution within the Constitution of India in finding solution to Jammu and Kashmir problem.
Prof. Virender Gupta also criticized Omar Abdullah for discussing with the delegation the internal matters of J&K and Government of India and the issues related to the foreign affairs of the country.
The spokesperson also took exception to the wrong information provided by Omar Abdullah to the Canadian delegation that accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India was on the basis of conditions which were different than those for other States. He reminded Omar Abdullah that all the princely states signed Instrument of Accession, which was similar to that signed by Maharaja Hari Singh, the then ruler of the State. However, in the constituent Assembly while framing the Constitution of India, Article 370 was incorporated on the insistence of Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah and his National Conference colleagues on temporary basis, giving special status to J&K, Prof. Virender said.
He further added that the so called erosion in the Article took place on the consent/recommendation of the State Government and number of central rules/laws were incorporated during the National Conference Governments and in particular during the Abdullah family rule.
The BJP spokesperson advised the ex-Chief Minister to desist from giving irresponsible and provocative statements as these may damage his own political career as well as make his party unpopular among the people of the State.
