Miraculous escape for driver as car catches fire

JAMMU, Oct 25: A driver had a miraculous escape when the car he was driving caught fire due to some technical glitch near Ban Toll Plaza on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, a Tata Indica car bearing registration number JK02L-8359 on its way to Udhampur side from Jammu caught fire near Ban Toll Plaza, falling under the jurisdiction of Nagrota police station.
The driver identified as Ranjeet Singh, son of Joginder Singh of Gho Manhasa, Jammu on seeing smoke billowing out of the vehicle, alighted from it.
After getting information, police team from Nagrota police station rushed to the spot and informed the Department of Fire and Emergency Services about the incident.
The fire fighters along with fire tenders reached the spot, but till then the car was completely gutted in fire.
Due to the incident, the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway also came to standstill for some time, but the highway was restored later by police cops.
When contacted, SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma told the EXCELSIOR that due to some mechanical glitch the car caught fire.
The occupant of the car had a miraculous escape as he got down from the vehicle immediately after noticing smoke emanating from the vehicle, he said, adding that the vehicle got completely damaged in fire.
“We have registered a case under relevant Sections in this regard to ascertain the exact cause of fire”, Mr Sharma stated.
