Udhampur Development Council appeals people to keep Devika clean

UDHAMPUR, Oct 25: Udhampur Development Council has appealed to the people of Udhampur to make all out efforts to keep the sacrosanct river Devika clean.
Briefing media persons about the Central Government coming forward for protection of river Devika, Anil Paba, president, UDC, said that a memorandum regarding protection of river Devika and its distributory Doodh Ganga was sent to PMO for consideration and necessary action on August 8, 2015. “The PMO forwarded the letter to Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Indus wing for appropriate action in the matter. Thereafter, the same was forwarded on 30-09-2015 to the Advisor, National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) Minsitry of Environment, Forest and Climate change for immediate action,” he explained.
Mr Paba also applauded the efforts of Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh for mooting the proposal to uptake River Devika under National River Conservation Plan.
Vikas Padha, publicity secretary of UDC, said that all drains should be diverted to sewage treatment facility in a time bound manner and dumping of Soild waste should be done in a scientific manner adhering to MSW rules.
All the hotels and Hospitals in the watershed of river Devika should have proper ETP facility, he added and also demanded strict imposition of ban of use of plastic carry bags as per provision of J&K Non-biodegradable Material Act, 2007.
