JAMMU, Oct 26: In the much publicized Udhampur attack case, Special Judge NIA, Y P Kotwal today extended 14 days judicial remand of Pak terrorist Mohd Naved alias Usman, Khursheed Ahmed Bhat, Showkat Ahmed and Shabzar Ahmed and time-frame for completion of investigation.
While filing application seeking extension of period for completion of investigation and judicial custody, Special Public Prosecutor NIA, Baldev Singh Manhas submitted that accusations against the accused persons are well founded for the commission of offences. “Since the investigation into the instant case is required to be made in depth to unearth the larger conspiracy hatched by the accused persons, it would not be possible for the NIA to complete the investigation within 90 days”, he further submitted.
After perusing the CD file, the court observed, “the investigation of the case is in progress. The investigation pertains to different places of J&K and more persons are allegedly involved in the conspiracy”, adding “some of the co-accused are still absconding which is causing difficulties in unearthing the larger conspiracy behind the attack so it is not possible to complete the investigation within 90 days”.
With these observations, court extended the time beyond 90 days for completion of investigation.
