SRINAGAR: An army jawan was today killed in a gunfight with militants in a forest area of Bandipora district, about 45 kms from here.
According to an army spokesman, the encounter broke out at around 4.45 PM after a joint team of army and police launched an anti-militancy operation in Buthoo forests after a tip-off about presence of militants there.
An army jawan was killed during the exchange of fire, he said.
The operation is still on, the spokesman said. (AGENCIES)
