JAMMU, Oct 29: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simran-deep Singh has got FIR registered against an employee of the Census Department for demanding and taking bribe during Aadhar enrolment.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that Deputy Commissioner in his capacity as District Registrar of Census under the Citizenship Act, 1955 had undertaken the initiative of sending machines for Biometric Enrolment (also known as Aadhar enrolment) to different schools of Jammu district in order to target the uncovered population.
One such camp was set-up in the Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani. However, Sister Suzette, Principal of the School brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner that Data Entry Operator deployed in the school namely Rakesh Kumar, son of Nagar Mal of Kunjwani was found taking bribe ranging between Rs 200 to Rs 500 from the parents of the students, who wanted to get enrolled.
As the Aadhar enrolment is a free service being provided by the Government, the act on the part of employee was misuse of authority, cheating and fraud. As the act on the part of Data Entry Operator sent adverse message about the functioning of the Government particularly in an initiative like Aadhar, which is personally being monitored by none other than the Prime Minister of the country, Deputy Commissioner has got FIR registered against the erring employee under relevant sections of Ranbir Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.
