Law Minister cautions Corpns against engaging pvt counsels

SRINAGAR, Oct 29:- Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari, today convened a meeting of all heads of Corporations to discuss various issues pertaining to court cases.
Advocate General, Jahangir Iqbal Ganai, Commissioner Secretary PDD, Dheeraj Gupta and Secretary Law, Mohammad Ashraf Mir were also present in the meeting.
Showing concern, the Law Minister said that it has been observed that Corporations have been engaging private counsels on their own without approval or consent of the Law Department.
He impressed upon all heads of Corporations to restrain from engaging any counsel, for any case, whether new or pending, without following proper procedure and obtaining approval from the Law Department.
He further stressed that only such counsels who have been appointed by the Department should be allowed to appear on behalf of respective Corporations. He also added that such counsels should be paid retainership and counsel fee only as pre-fixed by the Law Department.
The Minister said that Law Department has already issued instructions in this regard and any deviation from the will shall be viewed and dealt with seriously.
With regard to certain specific issues with some Corporations, the Minister said that details and reasons for any deviations should be communicated to the Law Department within 20 days by the Corporations.
