Artists protest against Cultural Academy

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 31: Artists from various organizations assembled here today in the Culture Academy Complex and held protest against the hike of KL Saigal Hall’s rent from Rs 500 to Rs 2000, both for registered and non registered cultural organizations.
The artists also raised slogans against the secretary and PDP led BJP Government for their anti-culture policy and nefarious design to crush the cultural/ literary movement of the Jammu region.
Dr Kamal Sharma, president (AAWAJ) while criticizing the Academy authorities said that academies are established to patronize and promote the art and culture but our State academy is crushing both art and the artists.
“We the artist fraternity condemn and criticize this move of the Academy and will not allow them to achieve their nefarious design”, he said.
Mohan Singh, president, Duggar Manch, said that the Academy is an autonomous institution and no role and law pertaining to the art, culture and languages can be enforced until and unless is proposed or recommend by the Sub-Committees or Advisory committees and finally to be approved by the Central Committee . It is very unfortunate that presently there is no existence of all these committees.
The prominent artists and the literary personalities who expressed their resentment against the academy and its policies were Vijay Sharma, Sudesh Kumari, Seema Mehra and Shiv Dev Singh.
