ERA to terminate contracts of non-performing contractors

JAMMU, Nov 2: CEO, Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) Vinod Sharma directed the officers to take punitive action under the contract clauses including termination of contracts in cases of all such contractors, who are not performing despite repeated persuasions and warnings by the department. He further emphasized that this is very important so as to avoid transfer of liabilities on account of cost of left over works to State, after loan closing date.
He issued this direction to the officers during detailed site inspection of Mega Storm Water Drainage Projects at Channi Himmat, Digiana, Gangyal, Thanger area and the Water Supply projects under execution by J&K ERA.
During inspection, it was informed that presently ERA has undertaken two Storm Water Projects with one project covering the areas of Digiana, Gangyal, Thanger, Ashram and Channi Himmat for a total length of 20 km at the estimated cost of Rs 85 crores and the other project includes channelization of nallah by covering it to the length of 8 km at the estimated cost of Rs 15.15 crores.
Besides, two major water supply projects are also in progress i.e. construction of tube-wells including installation of mechanical and electrical equipments and civil works in Jammu city at the estimated cost of Rs 30 crores and replacement of worn-out pipeline, laying of new pipelines in distribution networks and construction of overhead tanks at Jammu water supply scheme at the estimated cost of Rs 35.76 crores.
CEO further directed that the huge quantum of land being reclaimed by way of channelization of nallah should be simultaneously handed over to the concerned department viz. JDA, Housing Board and JMC, as the case may be, to avoid any encroachment of reclaimed portions land.
CEO was accompanied by Chief Engineer (Director Jammu) Ravinder Raina and Collector Land Acquisition MY Malik, concerned Deputy Project Managers (XEns) Manjeet Kotwat (Drainage), Maneesh Bhat (Water Supply) and other senior officers of ERA.
