SAMBA, Nov 2: Local residents today stage a protest and blocked the Samba-Mansar and Udhampur road at Mansar in Samba district against failure of authorities to renovate this road which is in complete bad condition.
The protesters led by Beopar Mandal President, Vijay Gupta gathered at Bus Stand in Mansar and raised slogans against the authorities for their failure to repair the badly damaged road. A large number of vehicles were stranded for nearly seven hours following the protest.
“Protesters said since 2007, locals as well as the visiting tourists have been facing lots of problems due to bad condition of the road but concerned department and elected representatives are least bothered despite repeated requests,”.
“Big potholes have developed between Nud to Mansar and Battal road in the absence of any repair, which is leading a lot of inconvenience to the thousands of commuters passing through the road, said Vijay Gupta, Beopar Mandal President, Mansar.
Every day, accidents are occurring and people are getting injured due to bad roads, but the authorities concerned had not repaired the road for the past eight years. The poor road connectivity is also badly affecting the tourism potential in the area, he said.
He threatened that if their demands were not fulfilled soon, they would be forced to intensify their agitation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Headquarters, Virender Singh Katal along with the Tehsildar Majalta, Sourav Sharma and other officials reached the spot and pacified the protesters. They assured that they would try to resolve the issue with the help of concerned officials. Following this the protesters lifted road blockade.
