JAMMU, Nov 3: Underscor-ing the need to promote skill development among youth, Minister of State for Education, Culture and Information Priya Sethi said the Government is giving focused attention to skill development and exemplary initiatives have been taken to hone skills as well as encourage entrepreneurship among the energetic younger generation.
She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tagged skill development as priority area and has given a clarion call to make the nation skill capital of the world.
“I feel girls should take initiative and come forward to learn new skills and explore the vast opportunities available in various fields,” she added.
The Minister said this after inaugurating the Hastkala-Diwali Mela at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar organised under the Skill Development Programme. The students had set up special stalls of creative handmade items, food court, games stall, decorative nail art and other such stalls depicting skills learned in the college.
Principal Kiran Bakshi, members of the staff and students attended the mela.
While going around the stalls, Priya interacted with the students and appreciated the efforts made by them. She called upon the college authorities to encourage such skill development initiatives.
Underlining commitment of the Government to ensure all round development in the state, the Minister said the present Coalition Government led by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is working on the agenda of development and major development projects have been launched for upgrading infrastructure in all the three regions of the State.
