Srinagar, Nov 3: Workers of Youth Congress today held a protest here against the lack of jobs for youth and rising communalism in the State after which several of them were detained by police as they tried to march towards City Centre.
The youth Congress workers who assembled here outside the Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) headquarters, M A Road, raised slogans against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition Government and tried to march towards Clock Tower or Ghanta Ghar.
The protesters were led by Youth Congress president and JKPCC general secretary. Shouting slogans against incumbent government, the protesters were intercepted by a contingent of police near Regal Chowk and asked to turn back.
However, the Congress workers refused and they had a scuffle with police. Subsequently police bundled several protesters into the already stationed vehicles and lodged them in a nearby police station. They were later let off.
Earlier, the JKPCC general secretary Irfan Naqeeb said that today’s protest has been held after the culmination of ‘Yuva Agroosh Yatra’ that was started from Jammu. He said the protest is against the lack of jobs for the youth of the State and more importantly against the rising communalism in the State.
