Minority family goes on fast unto death

Excelsior Correspondent
MENDHAR, Nov 7:  Victimised by the system and  indifferent attitude of  local Revenue authorities, seven members of a family belonging to minority community, hailing from Ari village  of  Mendhar Sub Division in district Poonch today went on fast unto death.
They launched their ‘fast unto death dharna’ at Shahidi Yadgar Mendhar, carrying black flags. Head of the family Sat Bhushan, his wife, three sons and two daughters sat on dharna at the  ‘Shahidi Yaadgar’  site in the middle of the town seeking justice from the State Government. Their nearly six kanal and ten marla  land has been snatched by the three families of the majority community in connivance with the Patwari and other other local Revenue staff.
After moving from pillar to post and submitting several complaints to Naib Tehsildar, Tehsildar  Mendhar and even the SHO concerned  in last two years to get justice,  this dejected family has been forced to launch hunger strike today. While, Sanatan Dharam Sabha president Satish Sharma, Sarpanch Devinder Tandon, Mendhar  Beopar Mandal president Parveen Kumar Sawhney and Bajrang Dal and RRS leaders visited the fasting family, no body from the local administration bothered to pay visit at the site and inquire about the matter from the aggrieved family. They continued to sit there in the open till late this evening in the cold.
Victim Sat Bhushan, son of Joginder Parkash, resident of Ari  told the Excelsior that he had 9 kanal and 9 marla ancestral land ay Ari in Khasra No. 668 and 676. After 2003, three locals in connivance with the Patwari and Naib Tehsildar manipulated the Revenue record and grabbed their six kanal and ten marla of the land. He said while 2 kanals of the land has been grabbed by one Nazir Hussain, son of Allah Ditta of the same village, the remaining land has been grabbed by retired Police SI, Munawar Hussain and Ziafat Hussain. He alleged that these three families  continued to harass them and managed to grab their land by force. Bhushan said Mohd Amin was the then Patwari and now Mohd Amin has been posted there. Despite several complaints to the Naib Tehsildar concerned and even Tehsildar and SDM Mendhar, no action was taken against the accused persons in last several years. Even the Tehsildar was requested to conduct demarcation and take action against Revenue officials but nothing happened.
DC Poonch M H Malik and AC Revenue Shafiq Ahmed when contacted said that matter has come to their notice. The instruction have been passed on to the SDM   Mendhar Sher Singh to hold inquiry. He said that action will be taken if any Revenue official found involved in fraud. They maintained that the family will get justice.
