Residents of Roop Nagar, other localities protest against water scarcity

JAMMU, Oct 1: The protest demonstration was held by the irate residents of Roop Nagar Enclave, Durga Nagar, Sharika Vihar and Chinore at PHE OHT Stage IInd, Roop Nagar today against the water scarcity in these localities.
The protest was organized by Jammu Welfare Organisation, Roop Nagar Unit and it was led by its president Kasturi Lal Gupta.
The protesters shouting slogans against the PHE Department for its failure in mitigating the sufferings of the people accused them of not following any schedule for supplying water in these localities. Lambasting the department they protestors said some times people have to wait for days together for water supply and that to is released for 20 minutes to half an hour only.
Mr Gupta while addressing the protestors said that the organization has approached every officer of the department including Chief Engineer, Superintendent Engineer during last two months but to no avail. This speaks volumes about the callousness of the departmental engineers towards the people living in these localities, he added.
They said that the two tanks in the area have a capacity of two lakh gallons of water while the demand is the area is not so much. It is not known when such  huge  capacity tanks have been constructed why the people face water scarcity in the area.
The department passes bucks on PDD saying the problem is due to low voltage and power shutdown. Gupta said as our peaceful pleas failed to yield results they were left with no alternative but to come to streets.
G L Koul, M K Wattal, Chander Uppal, Ashok Kapoor, S S Jasrotia, J P Chadda, Ashok Bhan, Jagdish Bhat, P L Raina and others addressed the protestors and warned to intensify the agitation in case the problem was not redressed.
