11 injured as overloaded van plunges into gorge

DODA, Nov 10: Eleven persons got injured, when the overloaded Maruti van they were traveling in, skidded off the road and plunged into gorge near Malik Pura area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandoh police station.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK06-6450 was on its way to Thathri from Sanwara, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into around 150 feet deep gorge near Malik Pura area, resulting into injuries to 11 persons.
Overloading in the hilly areas is a routine affair and the cops of traffic department are watching all this with open eyes and not initiating any action against the traffic rules violators as they fill the pockets of the officials by paying ‘hafta’.
After getting information, police team and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Gandoh in police and other vehicles.
Later, all the injured were referred to District Hospital Doda, where their condition was stated to be stable, when reports last came in.
The injured have been identified as Javeed Iqbal, son of Mohammad Hussain, Yasmena Begum, wife of Javeed Iqbal, Ayan Ahmed, son of Javeed Iqbal, Sumaya Banoo, daughter of Javeed Iqbal, Shayista Banoo, daughter of Abdul Gani, Amir, son of Gulam Mohi-ud-Din, Jaffer Hussain, son of Gulam Mohi-ud-Din, Yassmena Begum, wife of Amir, Mohammad Yaseen, son of Abdul Qyoom, Zahena Begum, wife of Jaffer Hussain and Amir-ul-Din, son of Ghulam Rasool, all residents of Sanwara.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Majid Hussain, son of Mohammad Hanif Wani of Tilogra fled away from the spot.
A case under FIR number 120/15 under Section 289 and 337 RPC has been registered at Gandoh police station and manhunt has been launched to nab the accused driver.
