All eyes at Wembley as Modi addresses Indians, first time after Bihar fiasco

LONDON : More than 60,000-strong crowd at Wembley,UK will keenly be awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow to speak out his mind, first time after his party faced a crushing defeat in Bihar assembly polls, leaving the cracks wide open in the saffron camp.
Mr Modi today embarked on a five-day visit to UK and Turkey, leaving in his wake the rumblings within the party, which is being seen as the toughest challenge for his leadership since he assumed office 17 months ago. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was present at the tarmac of Palam Technical Area to see off the Prime Minister on a misty morning.
Before embarking on the special Air India plane, Mr Modi was seen to be having a rather unusually long conversation with Ms Swaraj, a close associate of the Party patriarch LK Advani, who along with two other senior leaders came out in open to attack Mr Modi and party president Amit Shah’s leadership for, what they called, emasculating the party and “destroying’ its consensual character.
In a brief but strongly-worded letter, the three veterans, who are said to have been miffed with the present leadership for being ‘ignored’, said, ”a thorough review must be done of the reasons for the defeat as well as of the way the Party is being forced to kow-tow to a handful, and how its consensual character has been destroyed.”
Mr Modi is yet to react on the development. Apart from his official engagements in UK, there will be at least two occasions, when Mr Modi is to address public gatherings, one this evening during address to City of London and second at Wembley stadium tomorrow, where he will speak to Indian diaspora.
