19 fire incidents on Diwali

JAMMU, Nov 12: A total of 19 cases of fire incidents were reported during Diwali celebrations in Jammu district with main incident in Miran Sahib, where around two dozen firecracker stalls, 10 motorcycles and one cycle were damaged.
However, in the fire incidents, property worth several lakhs  was destroyed but there was no loss of life or injury to any one.
As per police sources, 19 cases of fire incidents were reported in Jammu district during Diwali celebrations, which include 5 residential houses, 1 shop at Bahu Fort, dumped furniture near Government Basic High School at Purani Mandi, one tin roofing, around 12 vehicles including 10 vehicles at Miran Sahib and a truck at Bahu Fort, one bicycle, one empty poultry farm at Khajuria Mohalla, Paloura and one DG Set at Roop Nagar, etc.
The main incident of fire was from Canal Road area in Miran Sahib, where the fire broke out in one firecracker stall and spread quickly to others and engulfed  around 20 stalls in the market last evening at around 7:15 pm.
After getting information, police team headed by SHO Miran Sahib police station SI Hilal Azhar rushed to the spot and Department of Fire and Emergency Services were informed about the incident.
The firefighters along with 2 fire tenders from RS Pura and Gandhi Nagar reached the spot and started operation to douse the flames. SDPO RS Pura Harjeet Singh also reached the spot and supervised the whole operation.
It took around one hour to bring the fire under control but till then the crackers worth several lakhs were destroyed. Seven motorcycles and one cycle got completely damaged, whileas three two-wheelers were  partially damaged in the incident.
However, there was no loss of life or injury reported in the incident.
A case under relevant Section has been registered at Miran Sahib police station and investigations are underway to ascertain the reason behind the incident and the total value of the damages caused due to fire.
Meanwhile, a godown having old tyres was gutted in fire at Bikram Chowk area, falling under the jurisdiction of Nehru Market police post. The godown was owned by Sarvan Kumar, son of Shankar Dass. Property worth Rs 2 lakh got gutted in fire. However, there was no loss of life or injury reported in the incident.
A case in this regard has been registered at Nehru Market police post and investigation started to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
According to Department of Fire and Emergency Services, a total of 21 calls regarding fire incidents were reported with them from last evening, out of which two turned out to be fake. He added that property worth lakhs was damaged but no casualty or injury has been reported in both incidents. He added that around 43 cases of fire incidents were registered across the Jammu Province.
