JAMMU, Nov 13: All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association (AJHLA) today expressed resentment for ignoring it in the constitution of Tourism Advisory Board (TAB).
Addressing a meeting, AJHLA president, Inderjeet Khajuria, said that real stakeholders in the tourism who have working in the field for promotion of tourism have been deliberately ignored and persons with vested interest have been included in the said board, which is matter of concern as the self promotion has been preferred over the tourism promotion in the State.
Past experience reveals that the members thus nominated to the board are more interested in self promotion instead promotion of tourism in the State and it seems that Jammu tourism is being ignored, which is already on ventilator.
Khajuria said that much awaited constitution of board was the demand of the association since long and it was the need of hour to devise ways and means to boost the derailed State economy in view of dwindling tourism industry in State in general and Jammu in particular.
Deliberating on the nominations of members of TAB from Jammu region, Khajuria said that while undue and excessive representation has been given to Hotel, Bar & Restaurants and Travel Agents which have nominal membership but AJHLA has been ignored, which has more than 300 hundred registered members, who have already engaged in the field of Jammu tourism promotion since decades.
While appealing the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed who is also incharge of Tourism Ministry, Khajuria said that AJHLA should be given due representation in the newly constituted TAB so that the Jammu tourism may get a fillip.
He further stressed that the constituents of this association are lodges, medium and average class hotels, which are the real back-bone of the tourism industry of Jammu. He pointed out that in the newly constituted board the nomination has been given to A-class hotels, whereas the real stakeholders have been ignored deliberately.
