Hizbul militant nabbed

SRINAGAR: A Hizbul Mujahideen militant, allegedly involved in murder of two civilians and a spate of firing incidents, was arrested today in Anantnag district of south Kashmir.

Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar alias ‘Hafiz’, a resident of Pahnou village of Shopian, was arrested on a tip-off by a joint team of police and Rashtriya Rifles from Qazigund, 80 kms from here, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, a police spokesman said.

“During the investigation, it came to fore that he (the arrested militant), alongwith two others, was involved in the killing of Javaid Ahmad Sofi alias ‘Waza’ of Bijbehara and Reyaz Ahmad Khan of Karawa-Malnoo, Shopian,” the spokesman said.

Javaid was shot dead by militants on March 22 at New Colony Bijbehara in Anantnag district while as Khan was killed on October 25, last year.

He said the arrested militant was also involved in an attack on guard post at Court Complex in Shopian district which left a policeman injured.

He was also involved in a firing incident in Awantipora and Kowni in Pulwama district, the spokesman said.

Dar had joined Hizbul Mujahideen in September last year and his role in recent grenade attacks in Anantnag district is being ascertained, he said. (PTI)
